If you’re dreaming of a Charleston wedding that blends timeless beauty with Southern charm, a Boone Hall Plantation wedding might just be the one, friend. It’s the kind of venue that instantly makes your heart flutter. It has moss-draped oaks, historic architecture, and photo spots at literally every turn. And after photographing Caroline and Gerhard’s stunning wedding day here, I can officially say: it’s every bit as magical as it looks.
Caroline & Gerhard’s wedding day was a beautiful blend of timeless tradition, Southern charm, and pure joy from beginning to end. From the start, their wedding had such a peaceful rhythm. Caroline got ready with her closest friends and family, surrounded by laughter and anticipation of what was to come.
Their ceremony took place at Mount Pleasant Presbyterian. The sanctuary was light-filled and classically beautiful. The emotion in the room was undeniable as they exchanged vows in Caroline’s childhood church.
After the ceremony, guests made their way to Boone Hall Plantation, one of Charleston’s most iconic wedding venues and a true Lowcountry dream. The cocktail hour was outside of the cotton dock, where golden light filtered through Spanish moss and a soft breeze rolled in from the marsh. It was just as breathtaking as it sounds.
One of my favorite parts of the day was sneaking away with Caroline and Gerhard for portraits on Boone Hall’s dock. The view stretched out over the water, the sun was dipping low, and there was this calm, quiet sweetness in the way they held each other and soaked in that just-married feeling. Even though Gerhard isn’t the biggest fan of having his photo taken, you seriously couldn’t tell. He showed up with the best attitude, just fully there for Caroline and ready to make her feel celebrated and at ease. And honestly, that kind of energy makes all the difference. It felt like everything just slowed down for a moment, in the best way.
As the sun set, guests gathered in the Boone Hall Cotton Dock for dinner and dancing. The space was elegant and relaxed, filled with glowing lights, heartfelt toasts, and a dance floor that stayed full all night long. From the historic charm of the grounds to the energy of their people, every part of this day felt like a reflection of who Caroline & Gerhard are: kind, steady, and full of life.
Iconic Avenue of Oaks – The tree-lined drive is one of the most photographed spots in Charleston for a reason. It’s a show-stopping ceremony backdrop, portrait location, or even a jaw-dropping entrance moment.
Historic Charm – From the wrought iron gates to the main house and rustic cotton dock, Boone Hall brings a layered, lived-in beauty you just can’t fake.
Photo Heaven – Open fields, ivy-covered brick, coastal views—it’s like having 5+ locations in one, all walkable and so worth it.
The Cotton Dock Reception Space – Vaulted ceilings, wood beams, waterfront views. It’s cozy and dramatic in the best way. The kind of space that truly transforms with your vision.
Give Yourself Time – This property is huge, so having time in the timeline to explore for portraits is key. I recommend a golden hour sneak-away if the schedule allows.
Bring a Second Shooter – Boone Hall is full of visual layers and wide backdrops. A second photographer helps cover more ground (especially during prep and cocktail hour!) and capture all the sweet, unscripted stuff happening on the sidelines.
Golden Hour – Plan portraits or a private moment near sunset. The glow through the oaks? Unmatched.
Caroline and Gerhard’s wedding reminded me exactly why I love what I do. It wasn’t just the beauty (though let’s be honest, Boone Hall brings it). It was them. They are the kind of couple who radiate joy—fun, full of life, and totally themselves in the best way. I swear they could be my models on call! The way they showed up for each other and every single person there was so genuine, so heartfelt. You could feel their connection in every laugh, every glance, every quiet moment in between. They’re the kind of couple that makes this job feel less like work and more like witnessing something really special.
Boone Hall isn’t just an iconic Charleston wedding venue—it’s a vibe. A celebration of beauty, and love that feels rooted and real. And if that’s what you’re looking for, I’d be honored to help capture your day.
