As a wedding photographer in South Carolina, I get a front-row seat to all the big moments, and the little surprises that pop up along the way. The truth is, even the most perfectly planned wedding days have unexpected twists. But the good news is, some of them are actually super easy to prepare for with a little intention (and a team you trust!).
Emily and Zachary’s gorgeous April wedding was the perfect reminder of this. They planned such a meaningful day, hopping between three different locations with complete trust and calm. It was a joy to capture, even with a few curveballs from Mother Nature and the logistics of multiple venues. So let’s dive into three common surprises that you can totally get ahead of.
You can pick the perfect date, but you can’t predict the weather. Believe me, I wish we could! Emily and Zachary had clear skies and stunning views at Glassy Chapel, but the day was chilly and so windy. Because comfort is always my top priority, we shifted a lot of portraits indoors. I promise, relaxed and cozy always looks better than freezing and stiff!
If weather is one of your big worries, chat with your photographer early about backup photo locations or simple pivots like clear umbrellas and indoor spots. Planning ahead keeps the day smooth (and keeps you warm).
Emily and Zachary chose three incredible spots to celebrate: getting ready at Airbnbs in Greer, their ceremony at The Cliffs at Glassy, and the reception at Southern Bleachery. Each was about 30-45 minutes apart, which might sound stressful… But because they built a solid plan (a shuttle for the wedding party) and trusted me to keep us moving, the whole day felt peaceful and fun.
If you’re considering multiple venues, give yourself extra buffer time in the timeline. You’ll thank yourself when you arrive unhurried and ready to enjoy every moment.
Did you know Glassy Chapel weddings have a strict three-hour booking window? That means portraits, family photos, and the ceremony all have to fit within that time. Because we were prepared, Emily and Zachary were able to stay present.
Always ask your venue about any rules that could affect photos—like timing windows, outdoor ceremony restrictions, or vendor access limits. The more you know up front, the easier it is for your team to create a timeline that flows beautifully.

At the end of the day, your wedding is about the two of you and the people you love most. Emily and Zachary were the perfect example of how trusting your vendors and staying open to little changes can keep everything joyful and easy. Their day wasn’t just beautiful, it was calm, content, and full of the sweetest moments, all because they leaned into the experience (and let me handle the rest).
“Ely, oh my goodness these pictures!!! We are so pleased. Thank you so much for capturing our day so perfectly! You’re so amazing!! “
If you’re dreaming of a wedding day that feels joyful and relaxed (even when the weather changes or timelines shift), I’d love to connect! I’m always here to guide you, cheer you on, and make sure your photos feel as genuine and joy-filled as your love. Let’s chat about your wedding day!
